Here’s a quick tip a colleague showed me when I first started teaching. Sometimes you want to use words in your phonics classes that are CVCs, CCVCs, or that use a particular digraph or trigraph.

Rather than trying to think of words that contain the particular letters or sounds, many websites already have collections of them.

Websites like Spellzone are an excellent resource for a task like this, however, I find its best to use a search engine to choose amongst the alternative resources that may be available. For example, I might search for three letter words, “ch words”, CCVCs, and so on.

This technique, has given me large lists of words that I can use in my classes (for students to practice their receptive listening skills), without the need to spend a lot of time creating my own lists.
