Recently, I experimented with making words/letters out of spaghetti with a Starter class (although there’s no reason you couldn’t do this with a Kindergarten level class). It worked really well. All you need is an inexpensive packet of spaghetti.

Here are a few pointers:

  • Have the children work in groups to make the letters/words.
  • You don’t need lots of spaghetti, one strand of spaghetti can be broken up into smaller pieces which can be used to make individual letters.
  • Don’t let the children eat the raw spaghetti.
  • It can get messy, so be prepared to clean up little pieces of spaghetti afterwards.
