When people go to create something new, often they look to what’s currently considered best practice in other parts of the world or another system for their foundational ideas.
Finland is one of those countries that many believe have a superior education system. When you gain some understanding of its structure, its easy to see why.
I understand many of the reasons why the current education system around the world is considered to be broken, however, I’ve never really taken an in-depth look at the one that is considered one of the best.
Here are a few of the books I read in order to develop my understanding of the Finish education system.
Finnish Lessons 2.0: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland? By Pasi Salhberg
Teach Like Finland by Timothy Walker.
Both books were a good read. I think a lot of what the authors discuss is actually common sense, although still not as widely adopted as it could be.
